Antique Ceramics and Glass Fair returns to the Worcester Porcelain Museum Saturday 8 September 10.30 to 4.00pm Sunday 9 September 11.00 to 4.00 The Antique Ceramics and Glass Fair returns to the Museum of Worcester Porcelain for the eagerly awaited Autumn Fair. All of the exhibitors are experts in their field and have been carefully selected for the fine quality of their stock and, items from all periods in the factory’s history and many other porcelain manufacturers will also be represented. With a huge variety of exhibits ranging from English porcelain, Chinese porcelain, Staffordshire Pottery, Royal Doulton, Worcester and of course antique glass the fair promises to be one of the highlights in the museum’s calendar and a haven for those who appreciate and collect fine objects. Worcester’s famous ceramics expert Henry Sandon MBE, who frequently appears on the BBC Antiques Roadshow, is a Patron of the Museum and will be in attendance on both days for identification and valuation of antique ceramic pieces brought in by the public although, because of his immense popularity, there is a limit of two items per family. During the fair visitors will still be able to enjoy the first floor 19th and 20th Century galleries where with the imaginative use of room settings, shop fronts and vignettes the museum displays show its collections of porcelain as they would have been used, or displayed in the home at the time it was made and lead visitors on a journey from 1751, when production of porcelain began here in Worcester, to the present day. An audio tour, introduced by Henry Sandon, himself a frequent visitor to the museum, brings this fascinating collection to life by introducing the workforce, talking about news and current affairs throughout the centuries and detailing many of the delicate and intricate skills that are particular to the industry. In recent years the Museum has attracted new audiences and built an excellent reputation for hosting events, private dinners and functions where guests can dine on exquisite Royal Worcester china in the privacy of the galleries. Using the museum for this purpose is a great way of attracting new audiences say the museum staff who love nothing better than to see the museum brimming with people who invariably come back to visit at other times.
