Label This is an 18th century copy of a Chinese Famille Verte pattern. Although today it is known as the Bishop Sumner pattern, it would not have had a name in the 18th century. It is likely that a large service in this design was owned by Bishop Sumner in the 19th century and his name has been associated with the design ever since. Gold crescent mark.
Description A copy of a Chinese famille verte pattern of the Kangxi period. Decorated in bright enamels with a narrow border and six inner panels of flowers, birds and animals. The central panel illustrates a mythical creature and a flying dragon in a landscape.
